TOBLACH. Calle Halfvarsson had a long way to the top at the start of the chase.
So also in the total of the Tour de Ski.
– I don’t like it, says Halfvarsson to Sportbladet.
Calle Halfvarsson was almost three minutes behind the winner in this morning’s chase start over 20 kilometers.
The 34-year-old had a noticeably tough time.
– I was about to walk into the wall, I think. It was a collapse, he says.
“A shit race”
Then Halfvarsson entered into gloomy thoughts.
– I thought several times that I will break now and then I will step off the tour. That this doesn’t work, it’s over.
After some “flashes of light” – decent recovery downhill, and moments of being able to go uphill – he went on.
A mental victory.
– Many times when I thought that I would now step down – then I have stepped down. I take it lap by lap thinking I’ll get around. The race is what it is, it’s a crap race. Its over. So it was just a matter of getting to the finish line.
The actual victory was taken by the Norwegians. Triple on the podium.
– It’s sad, says Halfvarsson.

“Totally uninteresting”
Now the tour moves on to Davos.
– The tour now, I’m shitting on it. The total is completely uninteresting for me right now. Now I take it competition by competition, and hope that I can be among the top in one of the races, says Halfvarsson.
But first a rest day. Much needed for Calle Halfvarsson who had the upload disrupted by covid-19.
– I hope to get energy back, I have none in my body right now.
checkTour de Ski runs until January 7. See the diagram here.
