Call with Macron for more than an hour, Putin confirms this

Jakarta

French President Emmanuel Macron resumed telephone conversations on Sunday (6/3) local time with the Russian President Vladimir Putin about Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Reported from the news agency AFPOn Monday (7/3/2022), a French presidential official said the phone call lasted 1 hour 45 minutes and was at Macron’s request. This is the fourth time the two leaders have spoken by phone since the invasion Russia to Ukraine on February 24.

The previous phone call was on March 3 which, according to the Elysee or the French presidential palace, had left Macron feeling “the worst is coming” in Ukraine with the intention of Putin to seize “the whole” of the country.

Elysee stated, in the latest telephone conversation on Sunday (6/3) local time, Putin emphasized to Mr Macron that Moscow plans to achieve its goals in Ukraine either through diplomacy or through war.

The French presidential official said from the phone call Macron learned that Putin was “very determined to achieve his goals, including what Putin calls the ‘de-Nazification’ and ‘neutralisation’ of Ukraine”.

Putin has also demanded recognition of Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula — which Russia annexed in 2014 — as part of Russian territory as well as recognition as an independent territory from the two breakaway eastern Ukrainian territories that Russia had recognized.

The French presidential official said the demands were not accepted by Ukraine.
