Call Of Duty will be “limited” on Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft confirms

We already know that Microsoft has plans to add tons of Activision Blizzard games to Xbox Game Pass when the deal (hopefully) ends in 2023, but one franchise that will run into some hurdles is Obligations.

Microsoft confirmed in a recent response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority that there are “restrictions” for CoDs on Xbox Game Pass, due to Activision Blizzard’s existing agreement with Sony.

“The agreement between Activision Blizzard and Sony includes restrictions on Activision Blizzard’s ability to put Call of Duty titles on Game Pass for several years.”

While this statement doesn’t go into detail, it would suggest that new Call of Duty games (like modern warfare 2) will not be added to Game Pass on the first day for a few years. According to previous reports, Sony’s deal with Activision Blizzard will last for at least the next three CoD titles, although that includes Modern Warfare 2 and War zone 2.0.

However, Xbox boss Phil Spencer noted earlier that Microsoft intends to bring Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass, so maybe we’ll have the back catalog until new games can be added.

We may have to wait until next year before we know for sure …
