Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III – Review, Ratings, and Controversy

This year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is getting quite a load. After impressions from the single-player campaign, the first reviews have already arrived, and it’s not a flattering look. The average from critics on Metacritic is around 50 percent for the PS5 version. The score from players is even only 1.4 out of 10. On Steam, only 28 percent of players praise the current episode out of more than three thousand reviews.

This makes Modern Warfare III the lowest rated main entry in the series at the moment. Sequels such as Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, Call of Duty: Roads to Victory for PSP, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized for DS also fared better in reviews. Perhaps only Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified for Vita is worse, with an average of around 33 percent.

One of the worst big games of the year

The reviews for MWIII are not only worse, they are significantly worse, even compared to titles that were generally considered less popular like Vanguard. It has an average rating of 73 percent just for comparison on PS5, and it’s the same on PC and Xbox. In fact, this makes the current Call of Duty one of the lowest-rated major games of the year. According to Metacritic, only titles such as Quantum Error or The Lord of the Rings – Gollum fared worse.

Regardless of whether you believe the anecdotal anonymous reports provided by journalist Jason Schreier in his article, or the developers, most of the criticism continues to be that MWIII doesn’t feel like a full-fledged sequel, but at best a half-baked DLC with big gaps in content for single player and multiplayer.

The reviewers do not spare the news either. In the already published tests, in addition to the campaign, for example, the general minimum of innovations compared to last year is criticized. Journalists complain about the repulsive interface or recycled maps from Modern Warfare 2. According to some critics, the DMZ mode is just pretending to be Zombies. Multiplayer, according to many observations, resembles a poorly priced map pack.
