Tom Henderson writes in an exclusive article on Insider Gaming magazine that this year’s Call of Duty will be subtitled Modern Warfare III. He reminds that, according to Jason Schreier, the studio Sledgehammer Games, the main authors of Call of Duty: WWII and Call of Duty: Vanguard, is primarily working on this work. However, as in the case of other games in this series, they are helped by other teams.
Henderson says that while this year’s installment has been repeatedly speculated to be premium DLC for Modern Warfare II, which may have been true for a while, he says it will ultimately be a full-fledged sequel. After all, even Activision itself talks about it that way. The game will feature a story campaign, multiplayer, zombies, and a new Warzone map during the first season. According to Henderson, the first season should start at the beginning of December.
As for the zombies, multiple sources told Henderson that it’s basically Outbreak 2.0. According to him, Activision is now considering whether it should be part of a premium game, or whether a free-to-play model would be better suited for this mode.
When it comes to dates, Henderson is very confident and sees the timetable as follows:
First Weekend Beta (PS4/PS5): October 6-10
Second Weekend Beta (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series/PC): October 12-16
Early access campaign (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series/PC): November 2nd
Full Version (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series/PC): November 10th
First season and new map for Warzone: December 5th
If Activision wanted to be at least symbolically inspired by the original Modern Warfare 3 from 2011, maybe we could look at Prague again…
