Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 10 (only the single-player campaign is available in early access so far), and Activision is already warning in advance that it will be a huge data package. This is also confirmed by players who have early access to the game. E.g. those with a Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console say that a full game installation required roughly 235-240 GB of SSD space. These are quite high numbers, if we consider that modern games have been in the tens of GB lately. This installation also includes Modern Warfare 2 (now called Call of Duty HQ) and Modern Warfare 3.

The developers let us know that the installation files will be much larger than in the past due to the fact that more content will be available from the first day of the game’s release, which will include zombies for example. But the installation will also include support for items from Modern Warfare 2 and map data for Call of Duty: Warzone. In addition, it mentions that although the amount of data will be huge, thanks to optimization efforts, the result will take up less space than in previous COD installments. Activision goes on to say that the user will once again be able to simply uninstall the parts of the game that they choose not to use, which can be 8GB down in some cases, sometimes up to 34GB.
#MW3 is almost here. In preparation, we would like to provide an update on file sizes which are larger than last year
This is due to the increased amount of content available Day 1, including open world Zombies, support for item carry forward from #MW2as well as map files…

In the case of the PC version, the official space requirements are a little lower than for the PS5, there it doesn’t look like an installation of over 200 GB, and it depends a lot on what you want. E.g. the minimum installation with MW3 multiplayer will require 79 GB (CoD: HQ + MW3 multiplayer) and if the user already has CoD: HQ installed, it will only be an additional 34 GB. However, these requirements can easily increase if you want the full CoD: MW3, then it will be 149 GB, and if CoD: HQ and Warzone are already installed, it will be an additional 78 GB.
What do you think about the ever-increasing volume claims for PC games?
