Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: more than beautiful Amsterdam?

There is a new but awkward Call of Duty game with an old name. In 2007 the first Call of Duty Modern Warfare came out, in 2009 Modern Warfare 2, in 2011 Modern Warfare 3 and in 2019 the producers suspected that everyone had forgotten all those legendary games and the counting started all over again with a second game that Call of Duty .of Duty: Modern Warfare is called and in 2022 we will have Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, but then part 2.

There is a single player campaign, a multiplayer with all kinds of game variations, and there will be a standalone Battle Royale addition. It will be called Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.

In the single player campaign we meet all kinds of famous characters from previous games, such as Captain Price, Soap, Ghost and Farah. Most of the characters seem to have encountered so many backstabbing and unreliable storytellers in previous games that they start the game quite cynically. But you come – beautiful as I am – not for the movies, but for the action.

Anyone who has played a Call of Duty game before will not be surprised. There are some “best” moments, with a reference to the legendary sniper mission “All Ghillied Up‘, the AC-130 gunship also returns on a mission, in which you as an operator are suspended on the battlefield and must kill armed people before they become dangerous to the soldiers.

Mexican signpost in Amsterdam

To my delight, there are far fewer missions where you suddenly find yourself in a collapsing tower, uncontrollably sliding down a mountain or surviving a rocket impact.

This is not to say that Modern Warfare II has become a realistic game in and of itself. Security guards armed with a Mexican cartel walk around Amsterdam’s marina as if it were the most natural thing in the world. After kidnapping someone in broad daylight from among the tourists, take some time to discuss how you will get the truth out of them before the getaway car leaves.

Your “suspension of disbelief” is most in demand when a truck throws an infinite amount of mines on the road that you have to dodge as if you were playing Frogger.

Wonderful gameplay

But aside from a few moments like that, the game is a joy to play. The settings change all the time, but each one is beautiful to look at. The gameplay is beautiful and can be set on difficulty for both beginners and advanced players and the story keeps you engaged in the game.

And then we only talked about the single player. Compared to the previous part, the multiplayer is not very innovative, but only the wide choice of new levels is worth it.

Did you like an earlier part of the Call of Duty series? Then it’s fun again with this latest iteration. If you want to try a shooter once, the huge variety of possibilities within the game is also a good reason to go with this one.
