Call of Duty games will not be on Game Pass for several years due to the deal with Sony

Microsoft has confirmed this Call of Duty Game Pass it will not be produced for “several years” due to the existing agreement between Activision Blizzard and Sony Interactive Entertainment. The company previously complained to Brazilian regulator CADE that Sony had blocked games appearing on Game Pass. Now, he has formally noted in his response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that Call of Duty games will not be able to be placed on Game Pass in the near future, even if the acquisition of Activision Blizzard is successful.

In his response to CMAIn the case of the Activision Blizzard purchase, Microsoft referred to the regulator to a tweet from Xbox boss Phil Spencer stating that the company “will abide by all existing agreements after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard” (let’s face it, Sony will have a field day. in court if you don’t). Microsoft therefore confirms that “the agreement between Activision Blizzard and Sony includes restrictions on Activision Blizzard’s ability to place Call of Duty titles on Game Pass for several years”.

From what we’ve heard, there is no Call of Duty game planned for 2023 (other than a Modern Warfare 2 campaign expansion), but Sony’s restriction covers the main entry of 2024.
