Call for Security Council: Offer prospects for measures being relaxed NOW

The Security Council, the consultative body of the presidents of the 25 security regions, called on the cabinet on Monday evening to offer Dutch people the prospect of easing the measures taken due to the corona virus.

According to a spokesperson for the Security Council, people “need that information.”

Thus, the security regions do not directly advocate a relaxation of the measures, but “people want to know where they are working if they follow the rules properly,” the spokesman explains.

The call of the 25 mayors is independent of what the cabinet will decide on the measures on Tuesday. So, in both extending the measures and easing them, that perspective should be offered.

The mayors see that “it really demands something from Dutch society” to comply with the restrictive rules, says the spokeswoman. “Although we understand that the cabinet can not say anything about the situation in three months.”

Situation requires ‘stamina’ from young people

The situation of young people was also discussed in the Security Council on Monday evening. The mayors see that the measures require “stamina” from young people.

“That is why the call was made: see what is possible for young people,” the spokesperson explained. “This does not mean: relax everything, but see if there is room for young people within the possibilities of the cabinet. For example in the field of education or sport.”

On Tuesday, the cabinet will decide on the measures that will apply until April 28. That decision will be announced at a press conference on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
