Press release from Jean Moulin college staff (Aubervilliers) dated Monday October 16, 2023
On Friday October 13, a fellow teacher was murdered in his workplace while carrying out his duties. The excitement of the educational community is immense,
the institutional reactions are poor and inhumane. The façade of support displayed by the ministry and the rectorate cannot mask the serious deficiencies specific to
supervision in national education and the lack of consideration for staff and students.
This terrible event highlights the situation of many establishments at the Créteil academy, including ours.
Recently, a colleague received extremely serious threats against himself. On this occasion, a major dysfunction was noted: the rectorate
does not have a suitable protocol to guarantee the security and care of its staff in the event of serious threats. Faced with this incompetence of the rectorate, we have
first wrote a letter addressed to the administration so that the colleague was protected.
No satisfactory measure was proposed and the response to our letter was contemptuous and misleading. Almost all of the college’s educational staff therefore exercised their right of withdrawal in the following days and went to the DSDEN to be received. We were denied access to the building and were greeted by the police.
Contacted by telephone, DASEN informed us that DSDEN had the power but not the competence to protect our colleague, referring us to the rectorate. We
we have decided to extend our right of withdrawal in order to be received at the rectorate. Following this mobilization, only a temporary solution was proposed. It was on this occasion that the rectorate informed us that there were no procedures in place to deal with these dramatic situations.
Today Monday October 16, three years after the assassination of Samuel Paty, and following the assassination of Dominique Bernard, the institution asks us to enforce
a minute of silence to pay tribute to our colleague. This injunction to welcome the students’ words without taking into account our own distress is a reflection
a blatant lack of consideration towards the educational community. We would have needed a day of mourning, contemplation and collective reflection to then be able to receive the words, emotions and reactions of our students.
We once again deplore the lack of benevolence of the ministry, as well as its blindness to the realities of our profession.
Instead of the demagogic security responses proposed (searching of our students’ bags on sight which is imposed on staff whose job it is not) we renew our requests for additional human and material resources and effective procedures for protection and support for staff. More generally, we demand the necessary means to carry out our work and ensure student learning in good conditions.
