On December 10, 11 and 12, four new night train lines were inaugurated (Paris-Strasbourg-Berlin, Paris-Aurillac, Paris-Bayonne-Pau-Tarbes and Paris-Montpellier-Sète-Portbou). According to defenders of this mode of travel: “It’s a victory, but there’s still a lot missing.” The night train is an alternative to planes and private cars and also allows you to go further than the TGV: a night’s sleep allows you to travel nearly 1000 km, without loss of time. It also allows more destinations than high speed because it runs on the many existing railway lines. The night train is also an alternative to the expansion of regional airports.

Thanks to various mobilizations, five night train lines have been relaunched since 2017. In 2021, a new official report showed the relevance of 25 lines, and in 2022, the State announced 10 lines. Then in 2023, the State is finally preparing to build new night trains but it reduces the ambition to a minimum.

To demand the development of these night train lines from the regions, a demonstration in the form of “joyful action” is planned for this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Dijon station.
