Up to three properties can propose mayors of Valle del Cauca so that the CVC chooses one and creates an urban forest there. This will also be the home of the 8 millionth tree, which meets the CVC’s self-imposed goal to reforest the department with its Greener Valley program.

“Urban Forests to CHANGE is the new call that from the CVC we address to the mayors of the 42 municipalities of the department, so that they join us and create together a new green lung for the planet, and what better than within their municipality” , expressed Marco Antonio Suárez Gutiérrez, general director of the Corporation.

The winning municipality will obtain the design of a new urban forest and the first actions to start establishing it. In addition, it will have the guarantee of resources in the new CVC Action Plan for carrying out a comprehensive intervention in the winning area.

“We have already planted more than 7 million trees and we want to reach our goal of 8 million in a site that we will make look beautiful and that will be emblematic and the symbol of a department that has been outside deforestation rates for years,” he added.

The properties nominated must be public areas owned by the municipality with real estate registration or vacant land. They must be strategically located in the municipality, corregimiento or village.

The scores will depend on the size of the beneficiary population, the extension of the land, its location and proximity to forests, areas of environmental interest, rivers or streams.

Properties previously benefited by the CVC or another entity with other projects may be rejected, because they are currently occupied or with a legal process in progress, because they are determined in the territorial ordering as an area of facilities, programmed to develop projects or public works or that in the short term, an investment is scheduled in the area.

Mayors can apply for properties until August 31, the winner will be announced on September 18 and the 8 millionth tree will be planted on October 12, 2023.

Interested mayors must apply for the properties on the banner that appears on the CVC website.
