Call for Master’s Degree in Latin American and Caribbean Cinema

Havana, Mar 15 (ACN) The Chair of Latin American and Caribbean Cinema of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation and the University of the Arts (ISA) call for the Master’s in Latin American and Caribbean Cinema.

As published on the portal CubacineOne of the objectives of this master’s degree is to train researchers with an interdisciplinary vision, capable of combining historical, socio-cultural, aesthetic and political perspectives, in connection with the processes of production and circulation of contemporary cinema and audiovisuals.

Likewise, it is to approach the study of the cinematographies of the region as an indissoluble part of the processes of cultural, political and social transformation of which they are, at the same time, origin and result.

It has three lines of research, the first of which is Cinema and Critical Thought in Latin America and the Caribbean: becoming political, aesthetic and thematic proposals and subjects of gaze.

The second line is Production, Circulation and Public Policies of Cinema and Audiovisual in Latin America and the Caribbean, and finally, the third, Cinema and subalternities in Latin America and the Caribbean: indigenous, community cinema and proposals of gender, racialities and ethnicities .

As requirements for admission, you must prove your university graduate status and the delivery of your duly legalized photocopy.

Foreigners who have not obtained their higher education degree (university) in a center in Cuba, and are interested in enrolling, must present the original title legalized in the country where they obtained it, at the Cuban consulate in that country.

You must also have professional, research or employment experience with the subjects of the Master’s Degree, as well as a command of the Spanish language and command of the English language (reading), and if required, attend an interview (online or in person, depending on your place of residence)

To obtain the Master’s degree it is required to pass 60 credits, distributed as follows: 24 credits of general courses; three elective course credits; three credits from workshops and 30 credits from research activities (10 from courses and workshops; six from events and publications; and 14 from thesis and final evaluation).

The details of the application process can be found in Cubacine, and the calendar is organized as follows: Presentation of the application for admission, until April 15, 2021; Selection Information, April 30, 2021; confirmation of acceptance by the applicant, until May 15, 2021; registrations, May 30 to June 4, 2021; and start of classes, June 14, 2021.
