Even in times of pandemics, doctors need blood preparations for the treatment of the chronically ill, for cancer patients or for heart operations and emergency interventions. Continuous blood donation is therefore still important because the blood components have a very limited shelf life. For example, platelets (thrombocytes) can only be used for four to five days. “
