Call for applications – Doctoral and postdoctoral research scholarships “Eugen Ionescu” 2024-2025

Funded by the Government of Romania, through the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and coordinated by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, the “Eugen Ionescu” Program allows doctoral students and teacher-researchers from all over the world to benefit from a three-month research mobility in one of the higher education institutions partnering with the program in Romania.

Goals

“Eugen Ionescu” mobilities take French-speaking teachers and/or researchers outside their country, allowing them to improve their skills in member universities of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie in Romania.

These mobilities fall within disciplinary fields deemed to be priorities for the development of the country of origin and consistent with the research interests of the host establishments.

Eligibility

Doctoral students and teacher-researchers from member and observer countries of the OIF and Algeria, from higher education establishments that are members of the AUF.

Deadline for submitting application files

The deadline for submitting files to the AUF: January 20, 2025, 11:59 p.m. (Bucharest time, GMT+2).

Mobility period: May 1 – July 31, 2025

Procedure for submitting applications

Submitting an application for the “Eugen Ionescu” scholarship program is a process that involves the following two steps:

  1. Obtaining a reception certificate from a Romanian university, a partner in the program. The pre-registration file (see regulations and list of participating universities below) must be submitted to the prospective university sufficiently in advance to allow the university to process the file.
  2. Submission of the application to the AUF must be completed and exclusively online, before January 20, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (Bucharest time, GMT+2), by clicking on:

No additional documents will be accepted after validation of the online form, even if the call for applications is still open. All documents constituting the file must be written in French. The absence of one of them will automatically result in the rejection of the file.

On May 23, 2007, the Government of Romania, following the commitment made during the 11th Francophonie Summit (Bucharest, September 2006), adopted a decree for the creation of a system of doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships, entitled “ Eugen Ionescu. The scholarship program is named after playwright Eugen Ionescu to pay tribute to the Romanian-French writer, an emblematic figure of 20th century literature and a major representative of the theater of the absurd, through famous works such as The Bald Singer , The Lesson and The Chairs.
