Nasria, a California woman trapped in Kabul, Afghanistan, said that the Taliban were hunting citizens United States of America in that country.
“They (Taliban) went door to door trying to check if anyone had a blue passport,” Nasria told Voice of America, which was quoted as saying New York Post, Sunday (5/9).
Nasria was one of 200 Americans who were not transported during the evacuation after the Taliban occupied the presidential palace in mid-August.
The pregnant woman then lamented the fate full of uncertainty due to being trapped in Afghanistan until now.
“For a few days, you know, I thought to myself, can I go home? Will my life end here? Am I going to die here?” Nasria joked.
Nasria said that he visited Afghanistan last June. He intends to visit his family and marry an Afghan.
However, Nasria failed to escape and is still trapped in a country now controlled by the Taliban. He said that the situation on the streets around Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, was very chaotic as residents scrambled for evacuation.
“It was very difficult to get on a plane. There were some days where we had to sleep on the streets. People stepped over (sleeping) people. It was that bad,” Nasria said.
He then contacted the US State Department, and was told to go to an area where they could be evacuated.
At one point, Nasria and her husband managed to enter the airport. However, they were prevented by the Taliban.
“Our (Taliban) troops are at the gate, and waiting for us to keep going and they have blocked us,” he said.
Although he had shown his passport, strong Taliban forces did not allow him to continue his journey.
“There was a time when I passed them and started walking as fast as I could, and they started shooting right near my leg and told me to come back,” Nasria was quoted as saying. Business Insider.
Nasria began to despair. He was very close from the airport, but his steps had to be stopped because he was stopped by the Taliban.
“So what hope should I have now?” he said.
Nasria’s husband had begged the Taliban to allow his wife to leave Afghanistan alone. However, she refused to leave without her husband by her side.
“My child is going to need a father figure, and I need a husband by my side,” she said.
