The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, met on Thursday virtually with several small businesses in the state to announce the second round of economic support of the aid grant program to companies affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
“This pandemic-induced recession has had a profound impact, demanding that companies adapt to protect their employees and customers, as well as their bottom line, and none more so than small business owners,” Newsom said in a statement.
For that reason, both the state Legislature and the governor passed a program “to help the small companies that drive innovation and the California economy,” according to Newsom.
Applicants who want to access this program, with total funds of $ 237.5 million, must submit their application until February 8 to get grants of between $ 5,000 and $ 25,000.
In the same meeting with small entrepreneurs, the director of the Governor’s Office for Economic and Business Development (GO-Biz) of California, Dee Dee Myers, considered that this grant program “offers the necessary help for these entrepreneurs as they continue to fight for their dreams, rebuilding and adapting to this rapidly changing market ”.
“California small business owners have been greatly affected by this pandemic and subsequent closures as they have worked hard to serve their communities and keep their customers and employees safe,” insisted the former Casa Press Secretary. White
Prior to this round of grants, California made another program of the same amount available to small businesses.
According to data from this office, 53% of the applicants selected in that first part of the plan are either Hispanic or African American, and more than 60% are business owners in industries “highly affected” by the pandemic, such as personal care, restaurants , child care services and clothing retail stores.
