California in state of emergency over wildfires near Los Angeles

CALIFORNIA (LPL/FRANCE324) – A wildfire raging in the hills near Los Angeles in California grew more than tenfold Thursday, leaving dozens of homes in ashes and forcing a state of emergency to be declared.

The Bridge Fire is one of three that have burned out of control around the second-largest city in the United States, fueled by a brutal heat wave of up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius) and gusty winds.

Bridge hit the towns of Wrightwood and Mount Baldy, north of Los Angeles, and destroyed at least 33 homes, several cabins and a ski resort.

The community had to flee. “We live in the canyon, the fire was coming straight in, and we couldn’t get anything out,” said Jenny Alaniz, a local resident, to KTLA.
