MEXICIALI – To listen to and address the concerns of the migrant community in transit in the region, the Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, visited the “El Peregrino” shelter in the city of Mexicali, in the company of the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom.
The leaders of both entities visited the place, speaking with those who are there, expressing their support to address their situation and, within the scope of their competences, continue to promote a migration policy that allows for flexible transit and with a humanist accent. the two nations.
“I thank our friend Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, for coming to our entity and listening to the needs of migrants around the world, as well as checking out the work we do in Baja California to improve reception conditions and give them the better attention to all the people who come to our territory, in search of a better life”, expressed Avila Olmeda.
For his part, the Californian president expressed his satisfaction at having worked side by side with Baja California, in the search for new horizons for migrants.
Both leaders agreed to continue collaborating, so that the transit of those who migrate due to economic circumstances, or due to violence in their communities of origin, takes place in full respect of their human rights and favoring the union of families traveling together.
Finally, they expressed that they will continue to hold conversations, with the aim of finding ways to promote safe migration and orienting policies on the matter towards a humanist face and empathy towards the situation of people in transit.
