California from this midnight with order to stay home | Univision Health News

The regions of About California and parts of the San Joaquin Valley will be under stay-at-home orders after intensive care unit (ICU) capacity in the two regions has fallen below 15%, the capacity limit outlined in Governor Gavin Newsom’s order. this week.

The measure seeks to address the massive number of hospitalizations for covid-19 and the shortage of hospital beds. Health officials announced Saturday that the vast region of Southern California and swaths of the Central Valley will be placed under a new strict order.

The California Department of Public Health said ICU capacity in hospitals in both regions had fallen below the 15% threshold, triggering the new measures that will force the closure of businesses as well.

The state Department of Health reported that ICU capacity in the San Joaquin Valley region is 8.6%, while that of Southern California is 12.5%.

The order will go into effect Sunday at midnight and will last for the next two to three weeks.

Other parts of the state are close to hitting the same restrictions while certain counties have chosen to impose the measures before even hitting the ICU percentage cap. Such is the case in the San Francisco Bay area where the measures also take effect on Sunday.

With a new closing imminent, many rushed to grocery stores on Saturday and lined up outside the salons to get their hair cut before orders began.
