California doctor arrested for selling coronavirus treatments

A California doctor wanted to fish in a troubled river during the coronavirus crisis.

The doctor Jennings Ryan Staley, 44 years old and owner of the medical office Skinny Beach Med Spa from San Diego, was accused of fraud by the United States District Attorney for the Southern District.

“We will not tolerate COVID-19 scammers who make money and take advantage of the fear of the pandemic to cheat, steal, and harm others,” said prosecutor Robert S. Brewer Jr.

Patrick Griffin, a lawyer for Staley, said his client was following the example of the executive branch of the government in prescribing medicine.

Staley could spend 20 years in prison if convicted.
