After 21 years, this will be the first time that a pair of pandas arrives in the United States and what better place for them to reside than at the San Diego Zoo. It will be on Thursday, August 8 when the pair will make their official debut.
It was the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, who through a statement declared that officially, August 8, 2024, has been proclaimed as California Panda Day due to the importance that these animals have in the state and the honor of receiving this species in the territory.
“San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance was the first organization in the nation to establish a cooperative panda conservation program, and its innovative conservation science has advanced efforts to protect and care for giant pandas around the world. As a testament to its success, five-year-old Yun Chuan is the son of Zhen Zhen, a female panda born at San Diego Zoo in 2007,” Newsom said in his statement.
It is worth noting that this Thursday, with the official debut of Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, there are expected to be a large number of people at the zoo, so we recommend taking extreme precautions and traveling in advance if you attend.
