Athens Author Unveils New Novel with Festive Holiday Event
Athens, GA – This holiday season, prepare to be swept away by a tale of love, new beginnings, and the haunting melodies of forgotten carols. Local author Leara Rhodes is set to launch her second novel, The Darkest Midnight in December, with a special event on December 7th at Foxglove Plantbar.
Rhodes’s latest work transports readers to Savannah, where Sharon McGee, fleeing the hectic life of New York City, seeks solace and a fresh start. As an accountant for an Irish shipping firm, Sharon finds herself living amongst a vibrant community of Irish nursing students in a cozy boarding house. But her search for tranquility is complicated by a blossoming romance, leaving Sharon torn between two captivating individuals.
"The Darkest Midnight in December"
Adding a touch of magic to the launch, the Book Club Singers, led by the talented Aimée Marcoux – associate director of the Classic City Band – will perform stirring renditions of 300-year-old Irish carols. Rebekah Boles, a skilled keyboardist with the Athens Symphony, will accompany the singers, creating an atmosphere rich with tradition and holiday spirit. The carols, Rhodes notes, are deeply intertwined with her story, with the title itself drawn from the first line of one of these ancient melodies.
The event is free and open to the public, promising an enchanting afternoon of literature, music, and festive cheer.
