Çakıcı and Arınç statement from the Presidency

Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın answered questions on the agenda on NTV.

Presidency High Advisory Board members Bülent Arınç and Cemil Çiçek’s statements on justice in the recent period, “Is policy change underway?” Reminding that he caused his comments, Kalın said:

NOT ERDOĞAN’S OPINIONS

“We will make a mistake if we say that all of these are statements made on behalf of our President.

They don’t speak like a spokesperson for the President. They express their own opinion. They also express these to our President.

Our President listens to these at the High Advisory Board meetings. But in the final analysis, it is something shaped by the will of our President that all of these become a policy after consultations in the big picture.

Those who do not know from the outside think as follows; ‘One person, one man decides on his own.’ If they knew a little about the way of working of our President, they would refrain from making such sentences.

We are talking about a leader who listens, consults and takes notes. It also listens to the Minister of Justice, to the Minister of Internal Affairs, to the Minister of National Defense, to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to his advisor and to the relevant institutions. An institution or person looks at an issue from his point of view. This is inevitably so. But if a mind does not see the big picture, considering other points of view, then you will make a mistake. Security comes to the fore somewhere, freedom is called democracy somewhere, but this time either security weakness appears or democracy and freedom weakness emerges. There must be something to achieve this balance. “

OSMAN KAVALA AND SELAHATTİN DEMİRTAŞ

When asked about his thoughts on the detention period of İbrahim Kalın, businessperson Osman Kavala and HDP’s Selahattin Demirtaş, he said that it would not be right to say anything about them,

“I don’t want to argue over these two names. It would not be right to reduce the issue to just the case of these two people. These are the issues already discussed in judicial reform. The law also has evaluations within its own systematic. Some sensitivities in society should not be ignored. So, let’s say that when Mr. Arınç speaks about the Demirtaş issue in this way, maybe he is making a purely legal consideration, but it is not possible to handle it independently from the political events. When you think about the Kobani Incidents, the Çukur Events, Yasin Börü and all other events, when you take into account the attitudes and positions taken by the HDP and Demirtaş at that time, a different reaction occurs in a segment of the society. Here, a perspective that takes into account the security and those sensitivities of the society should be put forward in a healthier way.

ÇAKICI ASSESSMENT

Upon the question of Alaattin Çakıcı, leader of the organized crime organization, threatening and insulting CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the statements of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli on the subject, Kalın said:

“The prosecutor’s office started an investigation. The legal process is progressing. In Turkey, no one person is threatened in this way is acceptable in terms of norms, the rule of law is not a thing. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu filed a complaint. Courts will do whatever is necessary within the rules of the law.

The old acquaintance and friendship of Mr. Bahçeli with Çakıcı is something he said with a sense of loyalty. There should be no conflict between personal law and the norms laid down by law. But here, in the final analysis, a legal process started. We will also watch how the court will decide on this. “
