Cake, games and music: This village celebrates together

The village festival in Daberkow was a sporty affair. And it had a little bit of a summer atmosphere in the south-east of France, where boules are the preferred sport. But the people of Daberkow also enjoy this recreational sport. It’s no wonder that their boules area was surrounded by people at the festival and attracted the interest of visitors.

Colorful program, many guests and applause

The members of the festival committee had organized a colorful, varied program for Saturday. The band “Die Tollensetaler” started off with brass music. “It’s a tradition, everyone always looks forward to it,” said Daberkow’s mayor Thomas Kröchert. His deputy Olaf Hecht was pleased that quite a lot of guests had already come in the afternoon. And there were more and more as the event progressed. The little dancers, the dancing mice from the Völschow dance club Dance Revolution, mastered their performance in front of a fairly large audience. They were sure to receive applause.

A noticeable number of young people played an active role again this time. Ben and Lilly Friedrich, together with Johanna Höft, looked after the cake stand with lots of charm, incredibly friendly and skilful use of cake servers and paper plates. “Yes, the young people have to take on responsibility. They do that well,” they were also assured of praise from the women at the stand next door who served coffee with the delicacies.

Over 30 cakes on offer

Speaking of treats: “The women from the community baked over 30 cakes, and the donations came from many individual households. We would like to thank them very much for that,” said Olaf Hecht and Thomas Kröchert in unison.

Small groups had gathered around the festival grounds on Saturday afternoon. There was a lot of chatting, bratwurst, cake and drinks, and the great atmosphere was enjoyed. The same goes for the hustle and bustle on the boules court. There, everyone gave their all, with ambition but also with a good portion of fun, to move the balls in the right direction.

Those who preferred to sit down and take in the atmosphere took the opportunity to take a ride in a small horse-drawn carriage. And just how beautiful the village square in Daberkow is with its large trees and the view of the church was clear to all those who stopped last Saturday to take in the atmosphere.

An exhibition was on display in the hall of an adjacent historic house. Photos taken at the village festival in 2023 were presented. This time, Felicitas Hecht, who had captured these images, was out and about with her camera again, and there were plenty of subjects to choose from. It is quite possible that these current images will also be presented to the public next year. After all, the motto is: after the village festival is before the village festival.
