Jakarta –
Vice presidential candidate number 1, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin responding to the Rohingya refugee polemic. Cak Imin emphasized that the government must be firm in putting the interests of the people first.
“Regarding Rohingya refugees entering Indonesia, we will ask for assistance from the UN refugee agency to bridge the handling so that it is better. Second, we will prioritize the interests of our people first,” said Cak Imin after meeting fishermen in Kali Adem, North Jakarta, Tuesday (2/1/2023).
Cak Imin said this in response to a question regarding the theme of the debate between the two presidential candidates, one of which was about geopolitics.
Cak Imin explained that the interests of the people were the main thing. He also emphasized that the best possible solution must be found so that the clash can be resolved.
“So if there is a conflict between the people and refugees, then we must prioritize the interests of our people and at the same time we find a way so that there are no clashes,” said Cak Imin.
Apart from the Rohingya issue, Cak Imin emphasized that regarding geopolitics, AMIN’s attitude towards the condition of Palestine is firm in wanting peace with the condition that Palestine must be independent. This attitude is in line with the state’s long-standing assertiveness.
“In the Palestinian context, our need is a joint commitment to maintain and realize the ideals of Palestinian independence which have been agreed to by all parties, including the UN and all countries. So that a peaceful path must be taken towards Palestinian independence,” said Cak Imin.
