Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin proposed that the 2024 election be postponed. He reasoned that currently there is a momentum for improvement in the economic sector so that it should not be disturbed by election contestations.
Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin initially said that he had just received various inputs from MSME players and analysts regarding the economic prospects this year. He said the momentum for improving the current economic outlook should not be disrupted by the election.
“From my visit to the region and seeing the positive prospects going forward, this good momentum in the future should not be ignored. Therefore, I see that in 2024 the elections that we plan to hold in February, do not let the good economic prospects it was disrupted because of the election,” said Cak Imin told reporters at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (23/2/2022).
He expressed a number of conditions caused by the election event. These conditions include economic aggressiveness, economic uncertainty, and exploitation of the threat of conflict.
“Election usually has 3 conditions. First, economic actors carry out freeze. Wait and see economic aggressiveness during elections. Second, the transition of power and government usually results in the so-called uncertainly economy so that it disturbs the very good momentum atmosphere, especially after the G20,” said Cak Imin.
“Thirdly, the election is also feared, hopefully it won’t happen, exploiting the threat of conflict,” he added.
Then, Cak Imin proposed that the 2024 elections be postponed for another one to two years. He said the election schedule was postponed so that the momentum for economic improvement would not be lost and the economic sector would freeze.
“Therefore, from all the input, I propose that the 2024 election be postponed for one or two years so that the momentum for economic improvement does not disappear, and then it does not happen. freeze to replace the two-year stagnation during the pandemic,” said the PKB general chairman.
“Yes, a year, a maximum of two years,” he added.
He said the proposal would be submitted to the leaders of other political parties and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
“Moga-moga I will pass on my suggestion to the party leaders. I propose to the President. So, if it’s true, we’ll see if it can be postponed or not,” he said.
