Major Marc Danckaert, commander of the Livernon brigade community, accompanied by gendarme Axelle Rolles, intervened at the Georges-Pompidou college in Cajarc. The purpose of their intervention was to make college students aware of all forms of harassment. Whether physical, verbal, in school or through social networks, harassment is a real scourge. It is defined as repeated violence which can be verbal, physical and/or psychological. The phenomenon sometimes continues online, we then speak of cyberharassment. The consequences of bullying can be serious and last in the long term: isolation, loss of self-esteem, drop in school results or even dropping out, profound discomfort, eating disorders, suicidal behavior, etc.
According to the results of the national survey published on February 12 and conducted from questionnaires completed in November 2023 by students from CE2 to Tle, 5% of students from CE2 to CM2 are victims, as well as 6% of middle school students and 4% of high school students.
The interactive intervention offered this month of October by the gendarmerie made it possible to free the speech of certain students who may, at some point during their schooling, have felt like victims.
The Georges-Pompidou college set up training within the establishment and student volunteers became ambassadors. This implies that they are references identified as such with other students in the establishment. They observe, collect facts and question the adult in the event of proven or suspected facts.
Beyond harassment, the intervention of the gendarmes in October made it possible to address addictions, drugs, games, porn, screens, but also the prevention of sexual violence (“my body is my property”). .
Fighting against all forms of discrimination and violence are essential actions in schools in order to protect and inform students. Prevention, education, awareness raising among children and adolescents must remain a priority.
