CaixaBank and Microsoft create an AI innovation lab and metaverse in Barcelona

It will work in coordination with the Microsoft AI R&D Hub in the city

CaixaBank and Microsoft will launch a laboratory on innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and metaverse in Barcelona to jointly execute projects.

In a statement this Thursday, both companies have explained that the initiative is part of an agreement to promote the application of AI in new financial solutions and create innovative work environments located in the metaverse.

The laboratory will work in coordination with Microsoft’s AI R&D Hub in the city, and will focus on the development of proofs of concept, prototypes and use cases that explore the disruption in financial services from the application of AI technologies.

The center will have the special involvement of CaixaBank Tech, the technology company launched in 2021 to promote the technological evolution of the CaixaBank Group.

EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES

Among the first co-innovation projects identified, those related to the improvement of AI models using new emerging technologies that are currently in the field of research, as well as the incorporation of AI in day-to-day work, stand out.

These initiatives may be aimed at improving the efficiency of processes, the customer experience or cybersecurity, among other areas.

An example of these innovative projects is the creation of a ‘cyberassistant’, which would help employees and backoffice units to significantly reduce the activities of lower added value that they carry out, in order to have more time to manage their main activities.

IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENTS

Both companies will also work on the creation of interactive virtual environments (metaverses) that offer immersive experiences, with applications in improving the experience of customers and employees, as well as the implementation of hybrid work scenarios.

CaixaBank Media Director, Luis Javier Blas, has maintained that joining forces with Microsoft in AI research will help them speed up the creation of real products and solutions by applying the most innovative technology in this field.

The president of Microsoft Spain, Alberto Granados, explained that the combination of CaixaBank’s knowledge of the financial market, with Microsoft’s experience in AI and other innovative technologies, “will facilitate the development of solutions that will transform the experience of financial services customers ”.
