Caifanes reaffirms its legacy at the GNP Stadium

With his red guitar, Saúl Hernández surprised the audience by appearing alone on stage at 9:20 p.m. to perform “Miedo.” Just him, his acoustic guitar and a previously recorded drum set began a concert that, although surprising at the start, made the audience immediately connect with the rock band.

Different generations: young people, children, adults; even entire families sang along with Saúl, demonstrating that despite the years, the group is still more present than ever in the hearts of the audience.

After the first song, the stage was plunged into total darkness and the energy of Mexican rock took over the place, with the appearance of Diego Herrera, on the saxophone, while the rest of the band gradually joined the show.

The audience, taking center stage amidst a wind that predicted rain, began singing “Viento,” the second song of the night, creating a special moment in which Hernandez observed with amazement the power that his music still generates among his fans.

During the performance of “Antes de que nos olvidaren”, a message was projected on the stadium screens: “When every grenadier knows how to read and write, Mexico will be greater,” a message intended to reflect the social commitment that the group has always maintained since its founding.

Alfonso André finally joined the stage to play the congas in an acoustic version.

“Awesome, the greatest show we’ve ever put on is yours. Magical things happen in life, we can confirm that today. May God bless you, band, thank you very much,” said Saúl, dedicating a round of applause to those present.

Nature seemed to join the show when, during the performance of “The Hidden Gods”, a light drizzle threatened, but in the end it only became a gentle breeze, as if the singing of 65 thousand people gathered together had driven away the storm.

Everything intensified even more with “Para que no digas que no pienso en ti”, a song with which the fans made the stands of the GNP Stadium vibrate.

With “Nubes”, Saúl Hernández continued to thank the audience, while André (the only two members of the original line-up) enjoyed the moment from his drum kit. The night progressed with few political speeches, a usual feature of Caifanes concerts, but the social message was not lacking.

Saúl Hernández dedicated a special moment to the fight against femicides, inviting Vivir Quintana to perform “Canción sin miedo”, a song that resonated deeply among the women present.

The show continued with “Inés”, a song based on the true story of a young woman who took her own life, and Saúl took the opportunity to make this problem visible:

“A percentage of suicides occur among young people. It is important that we talk about this, that there is more empathy and understanding in our society,” said Saúl Hernández.

When “Ayer me dijo un ave” began, the complicity between the band and the audience grew even more. The lights of the cell phones turned on, completely illuminating the stage and creating such a special atmosphere that it moved Saúl almost to tears, reflecting the emotion of a night that will remain engraved in the memory of all those present.

More than two hours of concert, from 9:20 at night until 12:15, was the length of the band’s concert, which did not mind stretching the schedule to the maximum to enjoy the biggest show of its career.

Sergio Arau, another contemporary rocker, came on stage as the only guest of the night to perform “Alarma la de Tos”, and after a tour of a Jaguares classic like “Detrás de los cerros” and, “No dejes qué”, from the Caifanes era, the final moment arrived.

And it was with “La negra Tomasa”, which in its long-playing alternative version, that the concert closed, after another classic like “Afuera”. To the rhythm of cumbia, thousands of people began to leave the venue while the band was still playing. At the end, darkness covered the stage so that the group could leave the biggest concert of their career in Mexico.
