Last night the fire brigade removed a few cages with mainly pigeons from the roof of the Groenhof shopping center in Amstelveen.

About twenty birds, mainly pigeons and a few jackdaws, were trapped in the cages on the roof of the shopping center. A fire service platform helped the police and animal ambulance to get to the birds.
Birds are protected by nature conservation law. In order to catch them, for example in the event of nuisance, an exemption must be applied for. Cages in themselves are not punishable in the Netherlands, but they may not be placed anywhere.
The police are investigating who put the trapping cages on the roof. The birds were taken by animal ambulance employees.
