Cafú’s Financial Woes: Two-Time World Champion Forced to Auction Luxury Villa

Two-time world champion Cafú got into huge debts. In order to solve his financial problems, he had to put his luxury villa up for auction, but it was auctioned at a significantly lower price than its market value. The former captain of the Brazilian national team thus lost several million euros.

His residence in the Alphaville district of Sao Paulo includes, in addition to six apartments, a swimming pool, a soccer field, a cinema, game rooms and saunas. The luxury property was estimated to be worth 7.5 million euros, but eventually sold for only 4.7 million euros.

“I hear from everywhere that I am broke. I don’t deny that I have financial problems, but I am not broke. I’m in debt, but like everything else, this will work itself out. I’m working on it and I’m determined,” said the 53-year-old former defender, who had to sell his villa in an affluent Sao Paulo neighborhood to pay off debts.

According to Brazilian media, Cafú ran into financial difficulties after the failure of his company Capi Penta, which he founded in 2004 with his wife Regina to manage athletes.

He didn’t do very well in business and in the past he already lost five properties. According to a recent property declaration, another fifteen own them, but all of them are burdened with mortgages worth several million euros.

Cafú claims that he got into financial trouble not because of Capi Penta, but because he wanted to help a businessman from Sao Paulo.

“I gave him the right to use my name and face, but he abused it. I trusted him, I considered him a friend, but in the end he got me into debt.” explained the former Brazilian representative, who played up to 142 matches for the national team.

The former defender tried to avoid losing his luxury villa by claiming that he lived there with his family and wanted to pay off the debt by selling other properties. However, the court rejected his proposal and gave him 45 working days to move out of the house.
