According to virologist Janke Schinkel (Amsterdam UMC), it is high time that the Netherlands closed its doors again for the time being. The beverage establishments are the driving force behind the current resurgence of the virus, the medical expert says. So they have to be slammed shut.
Is the end of the corona relaxations of recent months in sight? And should the catering industry again fear massive bankruptcy? Both questions will be answered very soon with a resounding ‘YES!’ answered if it were up to Janke Schinkel. The cafes are in fact a hotbed of new corona infections, as proved this week in Hillegom, among others. So it is important to reverse these relaxations. Because, says Schinkel: “You don’t go to a cafe to keep a meter and a half away.”
“The virologist understands that it is an unpopular measure to curb cafes. “It is summer, and we have held back for a long time. We want to go out and to parties. I understand that.” However, she does not rule out the necessity of closing cafes in the short term.
People are responsible for their own behavior, but Schinkel thinks that some outside help can’t hurt. Opportunities where the risk of contamination increases should, in her opinion, be limited. ”
So if you have planned a visit to the catering industry this weekend: enjoy it extra. Because who knows, it may be the last time for the time being. Then cheers, huh?
