Caen-Carpiquet airport, managed by the CCI Caen Normandie, ends the year 2022 with an increase in traffic to 301,395 passengers. Figures naturally higher than those of 2021 which marked the end of confinement (+33%), but which above all tend to approach the records of 2019, recorded just before the COVID period: 304,769 passengers!
Contrary to what the beginning of the year might have led to fear, with one of the reduced programs but also a lack of availability of planes and pilots, 2022 is finally proving to be a good vintage! “As of May, the activity of the airport began to become sustained and this continued until the second half of December”, rejoiced Maryline Haize-Hagron, the director of the airport.
An enthusiasm shared by Manuel Le Roux, president of the CCI Caen Normandie, also president of the SAS Aéroport Caen Normandie which manages the airport. “These results once again confirm the fact that the plane meets the mobility needs of Normans: 88,000 passengers for Lyon and its Hub, but also 60,000 passengers for Marseille or 34,000 for Nice…”, details the manager who can also take pride in meeting the expectations of tourists and students as well as economic players who can make a round trip to the other end of France in a single day.
In order to support the development of the airport and enable it to remain compliant with regulatory standards, major investments will be made by the Urban Community of Caen la Mer, owner of the premises: installation of photovoltaic shades on the car park capable of producing up to to 4,330 Mwh/year with a CO2 saving of 158 T/year (a figure higher than the airport’s own consumption), change of runway lighting, installation of PAPI equipment (lights indicating the slope of approaching planes)…
But the most important project, now completed, will be the extension of the terminal. “The objective is to double the current terminal… For this, we are going to launch a whole phase of studies and consultations for the completion of the work between the end of 2025 and 2026″, explained Joël Bruneau, president of the Urban Community. Caen la Mer. welcome and control of passengers”, continues the director of the airport.
Estimated at €7.4 million excluding tax, this extension will benefit from a participation of the Normandy Region and the airport operator up to 25% each.
