After Emmanuel Macron’s remarks recognizing the existence of “police violence”, Friday, December 4, 2020, the Unity – SGP Police union advocates the “strike” of checks, road or health. Ruddy Sergeant, Departmental Secretary Unit-SGP Police at Caen (Calvados), details:
“We will only intervene for emergency calls and findings of flagrant crimes and offenses. We are not abandoning the victims ”.
“Restore the place of the police”
In the tense context linked to the review of the global security law, as well as to the images of the violent arrest of rap producer Michel Zecler, the union did not appreciate the intervention of the President of the Republic. Ruddy Sergeant continues:
“We were waiting for an outstretched hand, a little consideration, because we’ve been in pain for a long time. However, he has only finished trampling on us ”.
Beyond the current controversies, the union wants to “restore the place of the police in society. We must protect those who protect. In Caen, during the demonstration of November 28, a police officer received a large paving stone on the head. Without his visor, he would have been seriously injured ”.
The Departmental Secretary Unit-SGP does not take refuge behind blinders, and recognizes that “slippages” may exist in the ranks of the police:
“But we are the most controlled and sanctioned institution. I myself am part of the disciplinary council and, each year, police officers are sanctioned, or even dismissed in the event of serious misconduct, including in Normandy! “
The Calvados police officers are invited to stop carrying out checks, as is also the case in Nancy or Montpellier.
