Cadu: Rising Star of West Bohemia’s Football – Season Highlights and Performance Analysis

Cadu is able to perform a number of tasks in the assembly. In his most successful 2021/22 season so far, when he worked in Pardubice, he started on both sides of the back four and on the wings. In the league at that time, he scored four times, added ten assists and thus earned a transfer to West Bohemia.

There, last year he did not make his mark among the chosen ones and was therefore loaned to Baník in Ostrava. But now the 26-year-old Brazilian is back in Štruncový Sady, and although he had a rather slow start to the season, he has made his way into the lineup in recent weeks and is doing great. “As the matches go on, his athletic form increases,” Koubek suspects.

In the last league match against Olomouc, he set up both of his team’s goals and thus helped lead to a victory. In the 2:1 triumph at Kostanay, he scored the first goal with a fisheye, after which he presented himself with a fantastic performance in the home rematch (3:0), which ensured Pilsen cup membership for the autumn part of the season. First, he passed to Rafia Durosinmi with a millimeter center for Viktoria’s second goal of the match, then at the very end of the match he got free to shoot, which substitute Ibrahim Traoré reached behind the goalkeeper.

The Brazilian plays the role of a left wingback in a three-back system, and his playing profile may be very familiar to many fans of West Bohemia. Despite its position, the balloon prefers to tickle with the right hand. And even though he has to fulfill a number of defensive duties, he is particularly effective going forward. Cadu, using a bit of imagination, reminds us of David Limberský, a long-time supporter of the West Bohemians, with his performances in recent weeks. The only difference is that “Limba” played, except at the beginning of his career, exclusively on the left side of the classic defensive four.

Even the list of Cadu’s strengths suggests that comparing the two footballers can make sense. “He’s great technically, as well as thinking and solving situations. He handles the one-on-one game very well. In addition, he has an excellent kicking technique,” Koubek praised his charge. And to make matters worse, Cadu, like Limberský, allows himself a twisted waist with his right hand from time to time. Although he does not do so as frequently as the former national team back.

At the same time, the Brazilian footballer did not have an ideal start to the season, for example, in the home match against Kosovar Drita, his performance was far from perfect. “I had to replace him, he was nervous,” Koubek recalled. “But now he’s playing great. Which is due to his increasing self-confidence, he was very restless at first. Now he has taken the chance and is slowly becoming one of our key players.”

The veteran among league coaches is of course aware that, despite his great form, Cadua is troubled by some shortcomings. “The question is his tactical sophistication on the left halfback position,” Koubek knows. Which is understandable, because Cadu is new to this position. “He’s still fumbling a bit about when he should perform and when he shouldn’t. This is where he still needs to improve,” believes the experienced coach.

Cadu will be able to show his skills again in Sunday’s league match against Bohemians (15:00), when he will face a tough opponent. Physically mature right wingback Daniel Köstl pays for a defensive rock, capable of supporting the attack surprisingly effectively. Therefore, it will certainly be interesting to see how the Brazilian, who is decorated with great fashion, will stand up in a demanding confrontation.
