The municipal libraries of the Cádiz City Council have started a new ‘Book Solidarity’ campaign, which aims to “contribute to promoting solidarity among readers with the most needy people in the city’s neighborhoods.”
As reported by the city council in a press release, the libraries will host this solidarity campaign from December 2 to December 13, which is part of the city program ‘Cádiz, city of books’ and which will show “Can reading can be an engine of social change and solidarity.”
In terms of its work, this campaign will consist of an exchange. “For every kilogram of immortal food or breakfast products, people who participate will receive a different book,” he explained.
Next, these meals “will be delivered to groups and social works in the neighborhoods where the libraries are located, thus promoting the presence of the reading community in the neighborhoods through solidarity and reading, and thus informing about the work of these social and neighborhood organizations of the users,” said the city council.
Last year, 350 kilos of food were collected and a total of 400 books were distributed because many of them were also intended for the associations of the beneficiaries of this campaign. As explained by the city administration, the books delivered to food donors “came from donations from individuals, authors, bookstores in Cádiz and the publishing house of Kaizén, which donated a hundred books for cooperation in this campaign.”
Regarding the method of delivery of these donations, the city council of Cadiz has made the collection points for citizens. At the José Celestino Mutis Library (San Miguel Street, 17) you can participate from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., and the food and non-perishable products collected will be sent to the Virgen Poderosa Dining Room (María Arteaga formerly) of the Daughters of Charity Community, which is dedicated to serving homeless people or people at risk of social exclusion, as well as families with small children who care.
At the Adolfo Suárez Library (Avenida San Severiano, s/n), the gathering will be from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and the food will go to the Manuel María Vicuña Foundation, ONGD that promotes the human development of children. , young people and women in vulnerable socio-economic situations through quality education that is a tool for social change.
For its part, at the Santa María Library (2 Street Enrique el Mellizo) you can participate in the campaign from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and non-perishable food items, which will go to the Centro Tierra de Todos Foundation, an entity that basically promoting access to opportunities for children from the neighborhoods of El Pópulo and Santa María.
Finally, food and breakfast products collected at the Viña Library (Campo del Sur, 38), from 8:15 am to 2:45 pm, will go to Calor en la Noche.
