Next week, the cabinet will unveil its plans for the development of two nuclear power stations. The construction plans had already been announced in the coalition agreement and EUR 5 billion has been reserved for the first steps.
“We are fully committed to wind, sun and other sustainable energy sources,” says Minister Jetten for Climate. “But you also want a stable CO2-free energy source in that energy mix. Two new nuclear power stations are a good addition to all sustainable techniques.”
It will take years for these power stations to run and market parties will have to be tempted to build and operate them. Jetten: “Then the government must have very clear policy for the coming decades about how this can be done safely.”
