Changing school holidays affects many families, companies and the tourism sector, the cabinet acknowledges. “That is why we are discussing this with the parties who always determine the holiday dates together.”

The VO Council, which represents the interests of schools in secondary education, is not in favor of the plan. “Shifting a holiday week is very difficult and will therefore have to be communicated in time,” the council said in a statement.
The PO council, an interest group for primary education, is ‘not negative’ towards the idea. “In any case, it will have to be discussed with the members. We should not immediately look negatively at these kinds of ideas and we should do everything we can to prevent schools from being closed again.”

The General Education Association (AOb) does not want to comment on the plans for the time being. The union has asked its members for their opinion and wants to wait for the outcome.
There must be clarity about the school holidays in 2022/2023 by June at the latest.
