Cabinet raises budget for energy surcharge | Inland

Some 680 million euros had already been earmarked for the subsidy scheme.

The energy surcharge is intended for households with a narrow budget who may find themselves financially stuck now that energy prices have risen so quickly. They can obtain a one-off maximum of 800 euros through their municipality.

Not all municipalities deal with subsidy money in the same way. In some municipalities there is hesitation to allocate the full amount to residents. Schouten wants to remove that hesitation by supplementing the subsidy pot.

Earlier, the Association for Dutch Municipalities (VNG) already sounded the alarm, because in several municipalities it was feared that the cabinet had released too little money for the energy surcharge.
