Jakarta –
Deputy Bappilu DPP Party Democrats Kamhar Lakumani said there was no obligation for ministers of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who wished to register as candidates for the legislature (caleg) to step down from their post. But Kamhar warned about ethics.
“It is true that there is no obligation for the minister who will advance lie down to step down from his post,” Kamhar Lakumani told reporters, Friday (12/5/2023).
According to Kamhar, it would be better if the minister who wanted to run for legislature resigned from his post. Because, according to him, it was to avoid polemics in the public.
“However, ethically it would be far better if we withdrew so as not to cause polemic in the public and avoid the potential for abuse of power,” he said.
However, Kamhar believes that the choice lies with each minister who wants to advance in the 2024 elections. He views the public. who does the control.
“But this is an option for each, it is optional. We believe the public will exercise democratic control,” he explained.
Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) highlighted that there were cabinet ministers from Indonesia Onward who registered themselves as candidates for the 2024 legislature. ICW asked these ministers to resign from their positions.
“ICW encourages ministers who want to advance in political contests, especially legislative elections, to immediately resign from their positions as ministers,” said ICW in a statement, Friday (12/5/2023).
“This is because there is a potential for a conflict of interest there. For example, the use of state assets and facilities as well as the inherent authority as an official for the benefit of gaining people’s votes in his constituency. In addition, it is also believed that his performance as a minister will not be optimal, especially ahead of the campaign period,” he said. he said.
