Cabinet meets on Tuesday: will the corona rules in Bavaria be tightened again? – Fuerth

– Actually, all Corona rules in Germany should fall on March 20th. However, the deadline for the so-called “Freedom Day” has been extended to April 2nd. And this date is also on shaky ground: there is a risk that the extension will be extended. This is exactly what the Bavarian cabinet is dealing with on Tuesday.

The health ministers of the federal states came together for a conference on Monday and discussed the corona situation in Germany. One thing is certain: the number of new infections is increasing in many cities and districts. These also include seven regions in Franconia in which the incidence has now passed the 3000 mark. At the same time, the clinics are filling up, nurses and doctors are often absent due to positive corona tests.

Because of the high number of infections, “Freedom Day” in Bavaria has already been postponed from March 20th to April 2nd. But the masks and measures are unlikely to fall on this date either. In an internal decision paper that Business Insider is present, one Extension of the current Corona rules planned until the beginning of May. The mask requirement, as well as 2G/3G access restrictions and the upper limit for events should therefore be retained.

But this is not enough for the health ministers of the federal states. They are also demanding a clear definition from the federal government of the conditions under which a region is considered a corona hotspot and which rules can then be tightened. According to Prime Minister Markus Söder, Bavaria should not be declared a hotspot despite high incidences. The CSU leader said this on Monday at the sidelines of an event at Munich’s Viktualienmarkt. “I’m against everything being canceled, but we remain cautious. But we also have to try a bit to live normality in the difficult times,” said the Prime Minister.

New Corona rules in Bavaria? press conference on Tuesday

Bavaria’s Vice Prime Minister and Free Voters boss Hubert Aiwanger also doesn’t think it makes sense to declare all of Bavaria a corona hotspot. “The requirements are not met because we neither have a particularly dangerous virus variant, nor is the healthcare system across the board facing overload,” he said Passau New Press on Monday.

The decision on the hotspot regulation will therefore not be made until Tuesday, when the Bavarian cabinet meets via video link. In addition to the corona pandemic, the crisis in Ukraine is also on the agenda. The conference will be followed by a press conference at 1 p.m. with the head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, Florian Herrmann, Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann, Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek, Minister of Social Affairs Ulrike Scharf and Minister of Education Michael Piazolo (Free Voters).
