Cabinet is going to relax considerably for hospitality industry and festivals

This morning an extra council of ministers was held to do the legal preliminary work: this way, relaxations can be introduced quickly next week.

In the package of relaxations that is now being discussed, the catering industry, clubs and discos are allowed to stay open until 0:00 at night. The exact end time may still change. With control of the corona admission ticket, the one and a half meter and mandatory seating can be dropped.

Home work advice is also dropped, as is advice to host a maximum number of people at home. Festivals and large events should also be possible again in a few weeks, with the 1G rule, a blanket testing requirement. All visitors should then take a test beforehand.

Extra Council of Ministers

The Cabinet had an extra Council of Ministers this morning to discuss the proposed adjustments and to decide that the relaxations can take effect immediately next week. “An extra Council of Ministers is not usual, but this was necessary in order to set the legal preparations in motion, so that they can start to relax rapidly next week. All the signals are green,” says political reporter Fons Lambie. “Also if you look at other European countries, the expectation in The Hague is that many measures can be scrapped.”

What remains and exactly which times will apply to the hospitality industry will be finally decided next week. Friday the cabinet has its regular council of ministers, on Monday and Tuesday the most involved corona ministers have further consultations. On Tuesday evening, Minister Kuipers of Public Health will hold a press conference.
