Cabinet increases child benefit for the second time | Economy

Next year, parents may receive even more childcare checks than expected. The Cabinet has decided to raise the maximum hourly rates for which parents can apply for a second time supplement.

Maximum hourly rates will increase nearly 2% in 2023 for all forms of childcare. A week earlier, the cabinet had already raised the maximum hourly rate for next year by nearly 1 percentage point.

The maximum hourly rate was initially slightly increased due to high inflation this year. The second increase came after GroenLinks and the Labor Party tabled a motion. The parties wanted to bring the maximum hourly rates for child care into line with the Central Planning Bureau’s (CPB) latest data on inflation and wage costs.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is still considering when to implement this further increase for next year. After the implementation of the change, parents will receive a supplementary allowance in 2023 on the previously transferred allowances.
