Cabinet: Homebuyers need to know what others have bid

In a letter to the House of Representatives, the minister wrote that there are too many abuses in the real estate world and that incentives to improve things are not being tackled broadly enough. With an ‘automatic bidding log’, the room for not acting with integrity disappears, she says.

Recent abuses make this spring’s appeal, in which real estate agents have already been asked by the minister to make the buying process around a house fairer, even more urgent. Only a good approach is still missing. That is why the minister is taking next steps.

Three steps

The first step is to work with a bidding log, so that the bidding process can be monitored. This is already being done in other countries.

Brokers also have to work with an improvement plan to make the rules in the buying process clearer. In addition, there must be equal opportunities for buyers.

The plea comes at a time when the housing market is deadlocked, with very few houses for sale and very high prices. Four in five homes sell above the asking price within a few weeks. Houses are on average almost 20 percent more expensive than a year ago.
