Cabinet expects ten major applications for subsidy for emission-free buses – Image and sound – News

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management expects that at least ten applications will be received this year for a subsidy for electric and hydrogen buses. The cabinet is making 40 million euros available for transporters to purchase such buses.

The Ministry expected according to BNR that at least ten major applications will be submitted by transport companies in 2021. It is unknown when they will arrive. According to the ministry, that depends on when current concessions expire. The ministry expects that carriers will be able to purchase a total of 1600 buses with the subsidy pot.

The subsidy is intended as a support measure for transport companies. They can use the subsidy to purchase buses that have no emissions, such as electric buses or buses that run on hydrogen. According to the ministry, concession holders do not necessarily have to purchase Dutch buses from, for example, VDL or Ebusco. According to the ministry, who ultimately makes a claim for the subsidy depends on ‘the most economically advantageous tender and the best price/quality ratio’.

The subsidy was previously announced by the outgoing cabinet and will apply from 1 January of this year. The new cabinet is expected to take office next week. That wants to make a strong commitment to emission-free driving, but in the coalition agreement there is nothing specifically written about buses.
