Cabinet: catering businesses that do not check pass risk closure

Catering companies that do not cooperate in checking corona tickets run the risk of being closed. That is what outgoing minister Grapperhaus said after the cabinet meeting. Starting tomorrow, an admission ticket is required to gain access to a catering business, (sports) event, theater and concert hall. According to a study by Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, many catering entrepreneurs do not see it as their task to carry out the checks.

Grapperhaus said the hospitality industry should “just” check. He pointed out that the cabinet has released 45 million euros so that municipalities can help entrepreneurs with the checks. Matters that do not perform the checks or do not perform them properly will first receive a warning. “But then we will proceed to further measures. If you do not participate, you will be closed at some point.”

The minister also discussed this with the catering industry yesterday. He said it is not that much work to check the passes and he emphasized that “in exchange” for the access pass the one and a half meter rule will disappear. According to Grapperhaus, checking the pass abroad goes well and he pointed out that it also goes without many problems in football stadiums.

‘Enough test capacity’

People can get a corona ticket if they are fully vaccinated, have had corona or have tested negative. Minister De Jonge of Health said there is enough testing capacity for everyone. According to him, there is room to test about 400,000 people a day on weekends. He assumes that everyone can be at a test location within half an hour, nine out of ten people are on the road for less than twenty minutes.

Research by NOS on 3 shows that in various places in the Netherlands people still have to travel longer than half an hour. De Jonge said that this really concerns a small number of people. And “white spots on the map are further filled in.”

He acknowledged that people have to make an effort to get tested, but he says that is nothing compared to the “massive restrictions we have to put on ourselves because a small proportion of people are not vaccinated.”
