Cabinet can no longer just close schools with new corona wave

These include closing schools, childcare and contact professions and imposing maximum group sizes. The cabinet takes these provisions from the so-called Temporary Act on Covid-19 Measures (Twm), care minister Ernst Kuipers writes to the House of Representatives.

‘Toolbox’

If the cabinet nevertheless finds these corona measures necessary, a new bill must first be drawn up that must be approved by both Houses. From June they will no longer be ‘in the toolbox’ of the minister of care.

There are still all kinds of corona measures left in this law, which can be implemented quickly. This concerns, among other things, maintaining a safe distance, the use of the corona admission ticket, the restriction or closure of events, catering or public places, rules for healthcare institutions and for travelers.

The House of Representatives will meet next week to discuss the fifth extension of the Twm, which has already come into effect.
