The change takes effect on April 1

The minimum wage will be BGN 710 from April 1, 2022, the government decided. Its size will increase by 9.2% compared to its current value. In determining its new size, the real parameters of the macroeconomic environment and the possibilities of the state budget have been taken into account, the decision of the Council of Ministers says.

The proposed new minimum wage will help reduce in-work poverty and income inequality, the government said. The growth of the lowest wages will increase the purchasing power and consumption of the lowest income groups in the labor market, increase the motivation of the workforce and reduce unfair competition.

From April 1, 2022, the minimum hourly wage will be BGN 4.29.
