Cabinet also considers offset half of the increase in energy costs for SMEs | Cost crisis

The government is evaluating the possibility of compensating small and medium-sized businesses by offsetting half of the increase in energy costs. However, a maximum amount of around € 160,000 per company would apply. Insiders confirm a message on this from The Telegraph.

In total, the support package would therefore amount to € 2.5-3 billion. The exact conditions have not yet been resolved. According to sources, the government is still talking about it.

The cabinet has been working on a support package for SMEs for weeks. Quite a few companies have encountered financial difficulties due to the sharp increase in energy costs.

According to the plan now under discussion, some SMEs are classified as energy-hungry. Only if energy costs amount to at least 12.5 percent of turnover, a company could be eligible for compensation.

Due to rising energy prices, the government has already met with Dutch families. From 1 January they will pay a maximum of € 0.40 per kilowatt hour of electricity and € 1.45 per cubic meter of gas. In addition, there will be a fixed discount of 190 euros per month for November and December.

The same maximum prices for energy also apply to self-employed workers, shopkeepers, associations and some SMEs.
